Does money have any meaning when it comes to kids? It
depends. You would think that a society like America that has high money value
will influence their children’s perception on how the see money. But no it
doesn’t. In fact, American children especially the toddles care less about
money.
Let’s take a look at how their African counterparts view
money. At least, I can remember when I was
still back home and how much children knows more about money. In Africa,
children ranges from 3 and up, knows the value of money. For instance, In
Africa, families always have visitors and every time a rich visitor comes over,
they always gift their host with money. These visitors most often give the last
child money for snack as a sign of courtesy. However, the host parent do take
away the monetary gift from their children. But because African children knows
the value of money, therefore, whenever visitors give them money they hide it
and use it for what it is meant for, snack. Now let me give you two more reasons why I
believe Africa toddlers knows the value of more than American toddlers.
One is, American kids are never left alone, hence are not
permitted to go to the store to buy snack or treats for themselves. Besides,
all snacks and food are bought by their parent. However, in Africa, there is no
regulation in law that stop a child from going to store to buy what they want.
The constant exposure to money at that little age automatic allows them to know
more about money.
In addition to that, America kids have more access to snack.
All the need is to ask and it will be given to them. Unlike the African kids,
the lack of snacking or food for most African kids leads to hunger. Overtime,
their ability to get what they need is accessible to money. The African kids at
young age are familiar with money through errand, monetary gift and hunger.
Whereas their American counterparts are only busy enjoying the pampered life of
getting what they want. Giving money to American children is simply pointless
because they will toss it way. For example, one time I gave my 3 years old
daughter one dollar to see her reaction, and the next thing I saw was her
writing on the money. Before I could shout no…. she ran to the garbage and dump
the money. Lol! You need to see my amazement. Kids will always be kids. Well! There
you go.
Once again, does money have any meaning when it comes to
kids? Leave a comment below.

I am humble.
